How India helped Europe, US and the world by importing oil from Russia

Prior to the Ukraine war, India barely imported crude oil from Russia. Moscow comprised just 0.2 per cent of New Delhi’s oil imports. However, by 2023, Moscow’s share of India’s crude oil imports was at 40 per cent. It was the US that encouraged India to do so in 2022 to strengthen the stability of the global energy market as Western sanctions on Russia disrupted traditional supply chains.
