Maharashtra Health Update: Over 15,000 Blood Units Discarded In State-Run Blood Banks In 2025

More than 15,000 blood units were discarded from 77 government-run blood banks in Maharashtra in 2025 due to expiry, infections, leakage, contamination, and insufficient quantity. The State Blood Transfusion Council has now issued strict directions on stock updates, blood transfer compliance, and wastage reduction measures.
