Maharashtra recorded a decline in student learning outcomes between 2017 and 2021 despite gains in school infrastructure, according to NITI Aayog’s report. NAS scores fell across Grades 3, 5 and 8 in language, mathematics, EVS, science and social science, raising concerns over foundational gaps, pandemic learning losses and pressure on the state education system overall.
