In drama filled Day 1, Magnus Carlsen defeated world champion Gukesh in Round 1 of Norway Chess 2025. Debutants Arjun Erigaisi and Wei Yi played Armageddon, where the Indian won with black pieces. Koneru Humpy beat compatriot R Vaishali in the only classical result of the round in women's event.
