Tax frauds: Shift burden of proof to taxman, says Niti Aayog

NITI Aayog's working paper advocates for a major shift in the Income Tax Act, 2025, proposing to decriminalise minor tax offences, rationalise punishments, and place the burden of proof of fraud on tax officers, moving India's direct tax system towards trust-based governance and enhancing Ease of Doing Business.
