UN General Assembly Elects 5 Nations To Security Council For 2027-28 Term

The UN General Assembly elected Austria, Kyrgyzstan, Portugal, Zimbabwe and Trinidad and Tobago as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the 2027–28 term. Germany failed to secure a seat and called the result a disappointment. India congratulated the winners. The members were chosen through secret ballot after a closely contested vote, with the term beginning on January 1, 2027.
