Wellness entrepreneur calls this common kitchen ingredient ‘the best thing for glowing skin’: ‘Eat it, apply it’; experts weigh in

Wellness entrepreneur Vibhuti Arora and actor Rubina Dilaik champion ghee for radiant skin, citing its internal consumption and topical application benefits. Dr. Shweta Nakhawa, a consultant dermatologist, confirms that pure ghee, used appropriately, can benefit skin due to its high content of healthy fats, Vitamins A, D, and E, and antioxidants, which support the skin barrier, aid cell repair, moisturize, and neutralize free radicals. She explains that ghee acts as a natural moisturizer, locking in hydration and soothing irritations, while internal consumption supports gut health and hormone balance, indirectly benefiting the skin. For safe use, 1-2 teaspoons internally are recommended, and topically it can serve as a lip balm or for dry areas, with patch testing advised for DIY masks. However, both Dr. Nakhawa and dietitian Kanikka Malhotra caution that ghee is not a miracle cure and its benefits are best realized within a holistic skincare routine and balanced diet. They advise against applying ghee to oily, acne-prone, or sensitive skin due to potential pore-clogging and stress that only pure, organic ghee should be used. Ghee should complement, not replace, medical treatment for skin conditions, highlighting the importance of professional consultation.
