China sharpened its warning to the United States over Taiwan during President Donald Trump’s Beijing visit, with Xi Jinping signalling that mishandling the issue could push ties between the two powers into dangerous territory. Wall Street Journal China Bureau Chief Jonathan Cheng told CNBC-TV18 that Beijing’s language was more forceful than before, even as both sides projected stability and economic cooperation. The summit also exposed differing priorities, with Washington focusing on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz while Beijing kept Taiwan at the centre of discussions. The presence of top US technology executives including Elon Musk, Tim Cook and Jensen Huang further highlighted the deep economic and technological interdependence between the world’s two largest economies despite rising geopolitical tensions.
